Vote discrepency fixed; final vote tally released Friday - 06-12-2010

WINNEMUCCA — The discrepancy in the vote tally discovered on Thursday (June 10) has been corrected and the final vote tally for impacted races are posted below.

According to Humboldt County Clerk Tami Rae Spero, the discrepancy was discovered during the certification process when there appeared to be seven more votes than the number of people who voted.

At that time it wasn’t known where the discrepancy occurred. The only campaign the discrepancy would have impacted was the Humboldt County Commission seat E race where two votes separated the two top vote getters. For that reason, Spero contacted the candidates from that race.

However, during the continued tally on Friday (June 11) it was discovered the discrepancy had occurred during the counting of Democratic Party absentee ballots from Precinct One.

Spero said it was possible some ballots were counted twice.

The corrected tally did impact the total numbers from Democratic Party races – though not enough to change the outcome – and the tally in nonpartisan races, such as the sheriff’s race.

All other tallies remain the same – including the commissioners race as no Democrats were running for that seat.

The certification process continued Friday afternoon. The final results for Democratic Party and nonpartisan races are below:
