WINNEMUCCA —The ninth annual “Run-A-Mucca” motorcycle rally will take place this weekend and Winnemucca, Nevada is gearing up for one great time.
“Run-A-Mucca 2010” is scheduled for Friday, May 28, through Sunday, May 30, and participants can expect everything from free entertainment, including three great rock bands, to a poker run and stagger, a bike show, memorial service, bike games and the now-famous “Burning Bike” spectacular.
Plus, for just $20 a ticket, raffle participants have the chance to win a new Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe motorcycle. Tickets are $20 each or six for $100; only 2,000 tickets will be sold.
The drawing will take place Sunday, May 30; participants need not be present to win the bike, but must be 21 years old in order to purchase a ticket.
Sunday also will see more prize giveaways, including cash and other prizes to be announced. For those drawings, participants must be present to win.
Last year, 700 people purchased the “Run-A-Mucca Package.” Participants traveled to northern Nevada from California, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Montana, as well as from more distant locales like Oklahoma, Tennessee, Michigan, Alaska and British Columbia.
This year, organizers are expecting even more participants and more fun as they continue to establish the event as a Memorial Day tradition.
Friday, DJ Mike Johnson will get things rocking at the Winners Hotel and Casino from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. The weekend’s vendors will open shop from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., also at the Winners Hotel and Casino.
Rock band “Bad Intent” will kick things off beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, May 28, on the outdoor
stage at the Winners Hotel and Casino. The group will continue to perform at 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Participants may pick up their “run packages” during an opening night reception at the Winnemucca Inn from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Plus, a special act, the Bike Jumpers will perform on Fourth Street behind the Winners Hotel and Casino at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Eric Haynes will perform on Fourth Street as well beginning at 7:15 p.m.
Saturday, vendors will once again set up shop at the Winners Hotel and Casino from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Participants may pick up their “run packages” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Winnemucca Inn, and DJ Mike Johnson will kick off an all-day run at the Winners Hotel and Casino beginning at 10 a.m.
Several special acts will perform throughout the day on Fourth Street including Eric Haynes at 10:15 a.m., 4 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.; the Bike Jumpers at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; and Victor McLaglen at 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Saturday’s $1,000 Poker Run will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. Participants will visit a variety of tri-county businesses with the object of building the best poker hand possible; first place takes home $1,000 cash.
Also that morning, rock band “Bad Intent” will kick off an afternoon of live music. The group will play at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
From noon to 2:30 p.m., a barbecue will be served in Paradise Valley with Eric Haynes as entertainment. At 3:30 p.m., a Burn-Out Contest will take place at Sonoma Cycle. First place takes home $750 while second place gets $250.
At 4 p.m., sign-ups for the Run-A-Mucca Tattoo Contest will be held in the Winners Lounge; competition between registered event participants will begin at 5 p.m.
“Desert Outlaws” will get things rocking from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday on the Fourth Street
stage. At 9 p.m., the now-famous “Burning Bike” spectacular will take place—also at the Winners.
Sunday will get started with a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Rotary Club of Winnemucca on the Nixon Lawn in front of the Winnemucca Convention Center.
“Run packages” may be picked up from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Winnemucca Inn, and vendors will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Winners, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Model T. DJ Mike Johnson will begin spinning tunes at 9:30 a.m. at the Winners.
At 10 a.m., motorcycles will depart from the Winners for a Memorial Cruise to Veterans Park; a Memorial Service will take place there at 10:30 a.m. Sunday’s Poker Stagger will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the winner of the best hand receiving $400 in cash. At noon, bikes will begin lining up at The Pig Barbecue and Pub for a bike show there from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The day also will include a great lineup of special acts on Fourth Street including Victor McLaglen at 11 a.m.; Eric Haynes at 11:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.; and the Bike Jumpers at noon and 2 p.m.
Additionally, Eric Haynes will perform at the Model T at 3:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.
The Model T will host vendors in its outside lot from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Bike games will take place from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; signups are from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. That will be followed by an awards ceremony at 6:15 p.m. and the much-anticipated performance of “Breakdown: A Tribute to Tom Petty” at 7 p.m.
At 8:30 p.m. the drawing for this year’s Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe will take place along with more awards. Tickets will be available for the bike at the Run-A-Mucca Booth up until the time of the drawing.
