WINNEMUCCA — Some residents in the outlying areas will soon have official street addresses. The Humboldt County Commission voted recently to amend the county ordinance and go forward with the project.
At issue is how some ranches, farms, and residences were given addresses in the first place. In some cases, the owner just stuck a number at the end of the driveway so delivery trucks would have an idea where to turn.
What has been convenient for UPS, however, has presented some problems for public utilities and for emergency response, so the county is going about the process of issuing official addresses.
The addresses will be tied to official roads, so if there’s a ranch off of US 95 the street address will reflect that.
Commission Chairman Chuck Giordano said it was his belief that many of those in the outlying regions have their mail delivered to post office boxes, so they won’t have to be inconvenienced too much with a new address.
Commissioner Dan Cassinelli said he would like to see Paradise Valley go towards a more uniform address system.
There does not appear to be a fiscal impact from the project, which is being handled administratively.
